Bible School

Robbie's First Day of Bible School
 Bible Study Fellowship

September 17, 2014
Preschool Study of Moses
Three Year Old Class

Over the past couple of days, there has been quite a lot of wonderful happenings in our home!
On Wednesday, Robbie started the Preschool class at Bible Study Fellowship. This is the children's program which is a part of The Women's Bible Study Fellowship that I belong to. The class meets every Wednesday morning for a few hours while the mommy's attend the Women's Bible Study.

This was the first time my little guy has ever been away from me while in the care of someone other than Mommy, Daddy or Gigi. So naturally, I was concerned about how Robbie would do. In fact, I found myself wandering down to the children's department to check on him through the glass window more than a few times in the two hour time span that we were apart. Well of course, Robbie just loved everything about Bible school! Robbie left me with a smile as I dropped him off and when I picked him up he was grinning from ear to ear with an even bigger smile on that beautiful little face! I was so happy to hear that he enjoyed his; " Bible School, as he calls it. Robbie's Bible School teacher, Miss Linda, told me he was well behaved and that he had a wonderful first day! We have chosen to homeschool our little ones. I truly believe that giving our children one or two days a week of Bible study and social time with other like minded children and their families is extremely valuable.

My heart just absolutely melted and I was filled with such joy on our car ride home from BSF as I listened to Robbie tell me the story of baby Moses in the river. There is nothing quite as heart warming as listening to a child tell a Bible story in his own words. :)

This past week in our study of Moses, we have been looking at the story of Moses' birth. For those of you that aren't familiar, or need a little refresher to jog your memory here is the basic story;

Then Pharaoh gave an order to all of his people. He said, “You must throw every baby boy into the Nile River. But let every baby girl live.”

A man and a woman from the tribe of Levi got married. She became pregnant and had a son by him. She saw that her baby was a fine child. So she hid him for three months. After that, she couldn’t hide him any longer. So she got a basket that was made out of the stems of tall grass. She coated it with tar. Then she placed the child in it. She put the basket in the tall grass that grew along the bank of the Nile River.

The child’s sister wasn’t very far away. She wanted to see what would happen to him.

Pharaoh’s daughter went down to the Nile River to take a bath. Her attendants were walking along the bank of the river. She saw the basket in the tall grass. So she sent her female slave to get it.

When she opened it, she saw the baby. He was crying. She felt sorry for him. “This is one of the Hebrew babies,” she said.

Then his sister spoke to Pharaoh’s daughter. She asked, “Do you want me to go and get one of the Hebrew women? She could nurse the baby for you.”

“Yes. Go,” she answered. So the girl went and got the baby’s mother.

Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this baby. Nurse him for me. I’ll pay you.” So the woman took the baby and nursed him.

When the child grew older, she took him to Pharaoh’s daughter. And he became her son. She named him Moses. She said, “I pulled him out of the water.”

Moses, the baby in the basket, was placed in a river by his mother. The Pharaoh's  daughter finds Moses, takes him home and raises him as her own and then has Moses' own birth mother  tend to Moses as a midwife/ wet-nurse and help raise him. I mean talk about seeing God's hand at work through the FAITH of a mother!!!

This story has been re-played in my mind so many times this week. The story of Moses' birth is one that I am well acquainted with and can remember first learning as a child myself. Something about hearing this story again as an adult mother with three children of my own makes this story come alive to me in a new and very real way!

All week long I have dwelled upon the very real and amazing faith and trust in God that Moses' mother, Jochebed had! In the many times I have read and heard and listened to sermons on this wonderful age old story of Moses' birth, I have never given much thought to this pretty cool, Godly woman named, Jochebed.

I feel that Jochebed has not been explored enough. As Christian women and mothers who aim to be more like the Proverbs 31 woman ... godly, submissive, faithful and true to our Lord, I feel that we can learn so much from this woman of faith. I mean first of all, I  love saying her name! Then there is the whole Mother of Moses thing... right? Could you even imagine being the mother of the little baby who would one day grow to be a man, and not just any man mind you, the man who would become a prince of Egypt. A man who would later bring the children of Israel out of Egypt. A man who then later would meet with God and bring down the ten commandments from Mount Sinai!!!!

Pretty powerful stuff here friends!  I happened upon another blogger who brought up the fact that not only was Jochebed Moses mother, but she was also the mother of two other pretty interesting children as well, Aaron and Miriam. Aaron was chosen as the high priest and to be Moses' helper and spokesperson. Then there was Miriam, a prophetess!

Wow Jochebed !  I don't think there was ever a mother who raised such important children. We aren't talking important by the world's standards, like doctors and lawyers and architects oh my! No, we are talking about important by God's standards... the only standards that matter!

In Hebrews 11, Jochebed is listed among, " The Heroes of Faith". It had been said that Jochebed was a woman who had a faith that was much stronger than her fears. I love that, don't you?

Jochbed was not afraid when she placed her precious little baby boy in that basket and then gently lowered the basket into the crocodile infested river. Something that my momma heart cringes at the thought of, but not Jochebed, she new that her God would somehow take care of her sweet little baby boy! Jochebed has character qualities that I so do admire. She is the kind of mother and woman whom I would like to be. A woman that never lets fear get the best of her faith! A faith in the same, never changing God that we pray to, love and serve today. In the past, I have been a worrier, always entertaining the fear and anxiety of the unknown, the "What If ? ". I am sure so many of you ladies, especially mothers can relate to.

Today, I invite you to join me in laying all of our anxiety, fears, stressors and problematic thoughts at the foot of the cross.  We have an amazing Savior who already paid the price and willingly accepts all of our troubles, burdens and fears. Jesus is constantly there, next to us, willing to take a load off of our back and comfort us with His grace and understanding ways. Isn't that exciting?! So ladies, I leave you tonight hopeful and energetic, but above all, with my faith in Him...the creator of the universe.

So as I tuck my three little men in bed tonight, I am not fearful and worried about the what ifs??. What will they become? Who will they marry? Oh no! Instead, I am full of excitement and joy, because I was entrusted by the Lord to raise these three baby boys to become men and warriors of the King.
I will do my part so He can do His!

I leave you with the lyrics from a song that has been playing in my mind as I am writing this post. In fact, I am embarrassed to say, I wasn't even sure who wrote the song or what it's actual name was. I looked it up and so here it is ...

"Put Your Hand In The Hand"

Put your hand in the hand of the man who stilled the waters
Put your hand in the hand of the man who calmed the sea
Take a look at yourself and you can look at the others differently
By puttin' your hand in the hand of the man from Galilee

Every time I look into the Holy Book I wanna tremble
When I read about the part where a carpenter cleared the temple
For the buyers and the sellers were no different fellers than what I confess to be
And it causes me shame to know I'm not the gal that I should be
Put your hand in the hand...

Mama taught me how to pray before I reached the age of seven
And when I'm down on my knees that's when I'm close to heaven
Daddy lived his life for eight kids and wife you do what you must do
But he showed me enough of what it takes to get you through
Put your hand in the hand...
Put your hand in the hand...
Put your hand in the hand...

Blessings,
