When Did I Get This Old ?

Good Morning Friends,

Funny story for you that inspired my blog post for today. The other night I was flipping through channels on the T.V during one of my late evening nursing sessions with the baby. Half asleep I stumbled upon The Bachelorette. Yes, I know, I know not the most intellectually stimulating show in the world, but that's not the point. I will admit I started watching it. While watching I started to notice the age of the people on the show 27, 28, 29, 30 years old. I thought to myself "Wow, I can remember when the Bachelor was on in it's early years. As a teenager I can remember looking at the age of these people and thinking how old they were."

Then it hit me "Oh my gosh I'm older than some of these people!!!" I'm 28 years old!!! This came as such a shock to me that the next morning I called my husband at work and the conversation went something like this. Ring, Ring Rich: "Hello" Me: "When did we become 28 years old? Weren't we just 17 and in high school a minute ago ?" Well anyway, as I put the baby to bed that night and looked at myself in the mirror while washing my face I saw my 28 year old self looking back at me with my my messy hair, wearing an unattractive milk-stained shirt (which belongs to my husband) along with an old pair of his boxers ( sexy right?). That's when it REALLY hit me.

I'm ALL grown up. I'm a wife and a Mother. I have finished college , had a teaching career and now I'm a stay at home Mom. I thought it funny that a year ago my life was filled with other worries and concerns like clothes, shoes purses and highlighting my hair, which are all great and fun things but just not my priorities these days. These days I'm more consumed with thoughts of vaccines, breast pumps, diaper bags and onesies. Heck, I'm lucky if I can fit a shower into my schedule! I suppose I could have felt sorry for myself at this point with my horrible appearance but, then I realized... I may feel like the oldest 28 year old in the world today ( I'm not even sure if I showered today) but, I do know this is right where I've always wanted to be ! I then looked over to my sleeping husband and baby and thought "How blessed am I"?

When I was a Freshman in high school I can remember being asked to write a paper in my first period English class about where I saw myself in ten years. I can remember writing that I wanted to above all be a Mother. I wanted to be married and live a happy life. Well, here I am ten or more years later with high school just a memory in the rear view window and the Lord has certainly answered my prayers!

So, I may not know all of the musicians the kids are listening to these days or even know who the next teen heartthrob is. I might have some days like yesterday where I don't make it to the shower because I am too consumed with my baby and the needs of our home. Guess what?? I'm ok with that because it's my life and it's right where I wanted and need to be.

This morning I once again said bye to Rich as he left for work, nursed the baby, put the baby down for a morning nap and got online to check my e-mail and favorite blogs that I follow. One of the blogs that I follow put up a post this morning called "Am I Old?" I found it funny that she was having the same thoughts as me. Well, that is enough from me for today. Hope your day is wonderful and fruitful!

One Proud, Old 28 Year old Wife and mama!

wow! I seriously LOVE this post. It is so good to hear a mother be thankful for her baby and not complain. They are such blessings! I am 31 today and have 6 children. I can't imagine a better way to be living my life. God's blessings to you!!
P.S.-I always hated those "where do you see yourself" or "what do you want to be when you grow up" papers. All I wanted to be was a mama and wife and somehow it never seemed OK to write that. :( I'm glad I now know it's the most important job a woman can have!!

You will laugh, or cry one day when you go back and read your post. OLD???? Come on baby, I am 55, and I honestly do not know where the time went. I too, look in the mirror and my heart is young. I see the gray hair and the dark circles under my . I see the weight gain from the "tiny" thing I used to be. I'm almost 2 of that skinny girl now. I would not trade anything for the experiences I have had. There were terrible times and glorious times. How great and how fortunate we all are to even have the "TIME"
To those who are given much; such as time here on earth, much is expected of you. Be the best you can be each and every day. Don't take anything for granted. The tired days are days well lived investments that bring great dividends, I promise you. Be thankful for something every day, and shame the Devil and thoughts of defeat.
I love you sooo much!!! Your MaMa

I love this post. Aside from your successes in your education and career, you're now a loving, nurturing wife and mother. You've accomplished all of this in your twenties! Give yourself a pat on the back! Remind yourself of this everyday no matter how old you are. Besides, if you're young at heart, it's all that matters.

Love, Ria

I loved this and love that where you saw yourself in life was as a wife and mother! I know god will bless that.
I actually had three of my friends (all in their late 20's) refer to me as their mentor the other day! While I felt honored, I felt old!
