North Carolina Cabin Weekend!!

Over the President's Day/ Valentines Day long weekend Rich and I went on a weekend getaway trip with our friends The Poynters. We had such a great time, where do I even begin. We started out early Friday morning loaded up the car and we were off. We traveled through Alabama (where we encountered some snow) Georgia and finally North Carolina. The road trip was fun playing road games with the Poynters and stopping off at Cracker Barrels along the way.

We arrived in North Carolina in Bryson City near the Smokey Mountains to a very snowy, beautiful winter wonderland cabin! Our cabin was called Black Bear Estates. We picked up the key and directions to the cabin from the rental office late Friday night. All of us tired from the long trip and very ready for a nice relaxing soak in the outdoor hot tub!

In the grand tradition of all great vacation stories I suppose I must share our version of the National Lampoon's Vacation saga! Ready here we go.... Once we finally found the address of the cabin we noticed the cabin appeared to be at the top of a small hill. We have a 4x4 Jeep so we figured we would give it a shot and attempt to drive the car up the snowy hill. Not realizing at the time that the hill we were climbing was much, much higher and steeper than we had originally imagined.

About halfway up the hill our car was struggling to make it up 4 wheel drive and all. The car started to slowly slip back and I do believe panic struck everyone in the car at that moment!!!! However, I was the only person voicing my panic out loud!!! Rich thought it best that we all slowly exit the car ( which by the way looked like it was about to roll down the side of the cliff at any moment.) Once we are all out of the car we realized that the ice was so slippery that the car would not budge. Even if it would we could risk the chance of the car falling of the cliff into the valley below. However, Rich cannot just leave the car in the middle of the road all night. So,Rich and Matt came up with a plan to get the car moved over to the side of the road till morning. But first they must dig out some of the snow around the car. The boys tell Audra and me the plan. Immediately I begin to Panic at the thought of my husband in the car trying to drive it to the side of the road, and plummeting to his death off the cliff!!!!!!( If this were any of the National Lampoon's Vacation movies, and if Rich were Chevy Chase that's exactly what would have happened!) Well thanks to the good Lord Rich and Matt were able to move the car safely and unharmed. I found comfort with Audra who convinced me that I was not going to become a widow that night! We all unpacked and jumped in the hot tub and the trip begins...

The next morning I awoke to a beautiful sunrise overlooking the snowy mountains and thanked God for his many blessings! We decided to head out into town. On our way we noticed that the people in the cabin further up the hill also tried to make it up the steep driveway the night before. Thankfully no one was hurt, however their car did fall off the smaller end of the cliff.

We had a fabulous time in North Carolina the trip was a success! We enjoyed several nice dinners with the Poynters accompanied by a good glass of wine. We also went to see the movie "Valentine's Day". toured a brewery, enjoyed shopping at some of the adorable boutiques out in town and so much more! We can't wait to go back! :)
