Bible Study Fellowship



 Today, well actually Wednesday, ( because I am now writing this post just past midnight on what is now Thursday morning), was my very first day of Bible Study Fellowship.  My husband and I are staying at my parent's home. The same home I grew-up in and lived in from the time I was one year old until the night before my wedding. This morning, while seeing my husband off to work for the day, as I opend the door I was greeted by the same big yellow school bus that picked me up when I was a  child. Nothing had changed, the bus stop is still on the corner of the street just steps away from my parent's front door. The children were all eagerly chattering, ready to board the bus and start the day.

 With the start of fall and the sights and sounds of school all around our town, I have been missing that certain feeling you get at the start of the school year! You know the one I'm talking about, new clothes, the smell of crayons or a bouquet of bright yellow, freshly sharpened pencils, a lunch box and the idea of new beginnings! I have been in the classroom for most of my life, right up until I had my little boy. Now, I like to think of myself as being in the classroom of life. I love learning, sharing and being my little Robert's first teacher.

Here I am my first year of teaching. This makes me laugh because I was 22 years old with braces! :) Looking back, I was just a kid myself!

 I went right from 13 years of school K-12th grade to six more years of college, ( freshman to Masters Degree) and today, I felt like a kindergartner again, awaiting and anticipating the new adventures and lessons I am about to learn. The only difference this time around, is that this school is of eternal importance. By studying the Bible, I will never receive a fancy diploma, it will not help me become more marketable in my career field and I certainly will not receive a fat paycheck. Oh, but the legacy I hope to teach my child and his children's children; the legacy of Christ and his gift of salvation!



When I was a small child, my mother belonged to this Bible study group for many years. A friend of mine and I have made a commitment to join BSF for this year. This year we will be starting with an in-depth study of the book of Genesis. We meet once a week on Wednesday mornings for two and a half hours of intense Biblical studies and fellowship.

To complete BSF, there is a series of nine years of study. Each year for nine years, BSF International classes tackle a different book or section of the Bible during the 30+ weekly sessions.

BSF is international and found in North America, Europe, Africa, Latin America, and parts of Asia, the yearlong classes run throughout the school year (September-June).

A. Wetherell Johnson led that first Bible study ... and the organization that grew from it. In fact, in its 50-year history, BSF has had just four leaders: Miss Johnson, Rosemary Jensen, Jean Nystrand, and current director Susie Rowan. After relocating from Southern California to Oakland in 1958, BSF's headquarters eventually landed in San Antonio, Texas, where it has been since 1980.

An active board of directors helps shape the spiritual and organizational direction of BSF. A small, committed staff provides day-to-day operational leadership, while volunteers from near and far help accomplish key everyday tasks.

In all, there are over 1,000 BSF classes with 200,000 class members in 38 nations across six continents! Over 800 of the classes are held in the U.S.
